Our History and Future
Where we started
In 1979, Fabutan began because of the inspiring feeling that came with a tan.
During visits to his dermatologist, Fabutan founder Bruce Puffer experienced firsthand the cosmetic benefits of indoor tanning. Impressed by the positive effect it had on his complexion, Bruce decided to open a single tanning studio in downtown Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to offer the benefits of tanning to others.
As more and more people experienced the benefits of indoor tanning, Bruce was able to open several other studios within Edmonton and Calgary. Bruce then franchised the Fabutan name in 1985 and opened new locations throughout Alberta and British Columbia.
It was not until 1992 that Bruce sold the franchise operations to Doug McNabb, then Fabutan's Vice President of Marketing. Today, Fabutan remains a privately held corporation with Doug still acting as Fabutan's President and sole shareholder.
Where we are going
The future of Fabutan will see our company continue to provide our customers with an unparalleled tanning experience while working with our franchisees to help them achieve even greater success. Fabutan is also looking forward to bringing the benefits of smart tanning to even more people by furthering our expansion in Canada.
