Fort McMurray is considered the heart of one of Alberta's (and Canada's) major hubs of oil production, and is located near the Athabasca Oil Sands. In addition to oil production, Fort McMurray also relies on natural gas, oil pipelines, forestry and tourism to uphold its economy.
